My name is Brian Byrne. I'm a graphic designer, based in Wexford, Ireland, committed to creating beautiful and effective work that will add value and credibility to your business, service or product. I specialise in brand identity design but also provide promotional work across various platforms for business, cultural organisations, institutions and local government.
How your business is perceived is integral in attracting customers. People are more likely to buy a product or service if they believe it to be authentic. A visual identity, and graphic design in a broader sense, can help form that perception; one of authenticity, expertise and trust.
A strong visual identity informs those beliefs and perceptions by identifying your business in a clear, functional and elegant way. In addition to being the visual representation of the business, product or service you wish to promote, your identity is also an expression of the core values that are intrinsic to it.
Intelligent, creative results, that meet your needs, can only be found by learning about you and your business. Meeting with the client, understanding the business, research and asking lots and lots of questions. Once the information as been collated and reviewed designing can start. A rigorous, thoughtful process follows; conceptualising, sketching, drafting and editing, before the final work is presented. The needs of each client are distinct, varying in scope and tone, and this approach allows me to create relevant, bespoke design solutions for each one.
When I was five my parents bought me a set of children's encyclopaedias. They were red, leather bound books beautifully designed and illustrated. They were structured alphabetically and my favourite entry was in the 'F' section – Flags! There was a small set of flags of the world included and I loved pouring over the colours and simple shapes. I copied them into lined copybooks and annotated them precisely, over and over again. Looking back now I suppose that was the start of my graphic education. The first time I became aware of how form and colour combined could be so beautiful.
Today I'm still interested in how form and colour work together. But now there's other cool stuff to think about: concept, typography, content, tone, relevance, function and utility! All integral parts of the moving machine that is graphic design.
The graphic education continued and took its first big leap in 1996 when I started a Visual Communications diploma in Waterford Institute of Technology. When I graduated in 1999 I travelled extensively for two years and gained a wealth of knowledge and cultural experience. It was an unconventional time in my life and it shaped my thinking about the future and career. Working as an independent designer always appealed and after my travels, I was even more determined to do so. I started my first business in 2003.
In 2005 I decided to broaden my field of expertise and started an Architectural Technology degree. I graduated with first class honours and the Student of the Year award in 2009 from Carlow IT.
With the downturn in full swing, I found it prudent to return to my first passion, and I launched my new graphic design business in 2010. I now work in a small studio from my rural home just outside Wexford. My goal is to help businesses, organisations, and institutions develop and visually communicate their message.I believe that effective design should be beautiful and useful, it should be relevant to its subject and have a thoughtful idea at its core.
